"Laus Athletis Olympia Vincentibus" Detail. 2006 Gouache, Watercolour, Inks. 500 x 600mm
~~~~
This work was conceived as a"SKETCH"/"PROJECT" for a possible theatrical panoramic background Pannel. The Theme of Olympic games illustrated here with the Acropolis (Athens, Greece) Architectural landscape, the sillouette of the Winner with Laurels and the inscriptions in old greek language serve here as a symbols building the atmosphere of Olympic Games. As source of inspiration certainly were The Olympic Games which were born in Ancient Greece and were held in honour of Zeus, the father of the Gods. The first Olympic Games took place in Olympia for the first time in the 7th century B.C. According to the myth, they were founded by Pelops, the King of Peloponnese. Olympia is considered as one of the most important sanctuaries of antiquity.The Olympic Games were reserved exclusively for young males from the Greek world which confronted each others for the glory and a wreath of olive leafs. The competition included athletics categories of wrestling, long jump, discus, running, javelin throwing, chariot, horse racing and the pancratium.
"The Metamorphosys of Time. The Sun" Sketch. Oil on Canvas. 250 x 320 mm.
"The Metamorphosys of Time. Desintegration of Matter" 2004. Oil, Mixed Medium. 300 x 400 mm
"Xerox III" 2006. Collage. Mixed Medium. 550 x 650 mm
Xerox III presents the image of the technological progress, and the "digitalisation" of the present world. The Repetitive verticals intensify the Monodirectional rhythm and create the ambience of a Xerox Machine Inside Printing Mechanism.
Damyan's Conceptual Modular Art
"Author's Desilusion" by Damyan. 2008. 1200 x 500 mm
Here Damyan presents his new graphic works made of modules. The Conception presents modular constructions revealing one or another image, idea, expression, thought. The "Author's Desilusion" graphic work is done with repetitive samples of the cover image of a book, showing the state of soul of Desilusioned author, or its heroes. The work reveals Damyan's world, deep, unfolded and full of desilusion, desilusion being here a dominant mood.
"Food Constellation. Golden Modules" 2008. by Damyan.
Photo-Modular. 600 x 600 mm
The work "Food Constellation. Golden Modules" is techniquely done diffrently; but in the same creative period dominated by modular art. Inspired by bidimensional electronic 16 bit images space, the black background showing the space, and Golden points eliminating the produced stars made of food. "We are all made of stars" sang recently Moby. Damyan here illustrates his philosophy of circulation of matter in this world/universe. Human beings representing the Stars made of Food, eliminated by Golden Modules.
~~~~~~~
The logical link between the "Generating/Productive Golden Modules" and the human beings, being Stars, is reversed according to ancient concept of unity between the running lama and the jaguar hunting it. The Lama in the moment of desperate escape feels allready a part of jaguar. The victim feels a part of the hunter. So The Golden Modules are a Product of Creative Human Stars. As people will perish, but Art - as Golden Values created by them will live eternally. Ars Longa - Vita Brevis (roman proverb).
~~~
More than that : This Art then will contribute to give birth to new "stars", who will continue this neverstopping process of creation and contemplation through creation. This is the hidden sense illustrated by the Artist Damyan. Hope you'll enjoy the works.
Damyan's Submission for "KRAKOZYABRA" Exhibition in a Brussels Art Gallery
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Krakozyabra Themes" (fantastic creatures, jokes, cartoons, children illustration and similar, also abstract works); That's how its called the next exhibition in Gabrichidze Gallery in Brussels. After long walks and unforgettable experiences tasting the best (belgian) cakes in the world, Damyan has visited the gallery situated not far from Brussels' centre. The exibition starts on the 26th of February. Come and visit Gabrichidze Gallery. Rue du Plentickx. 32. Brussels

FRIEND's Review of the New Damyan's Exhibition in Hotel Nouvum Garden

The Novum Garden is a new Hotel near the centre of Prague.
It has a very interesting and high standard of interior design and the spacious rooms are well decorated and comfortable. The bar and café is very relaxing with nice lighting and a friendly staff.

Recently the hotel opened an exciting and original exhibition of PORTRAIT and GRAPHIC ART by Damyan. He is a young and talented Russian artist living in Prague and many of his works are celebrity portraits, Prague Graphics inspired by Art Deco designs and Gay interest male portraits and nudes.

If you like the style and content of the works on display you may also COMMISSION a portrait or full body drawing/painting of yourself or your partner.

Portraits and Prague Graphics are all mounted and framed and look very good in the halls and rooms of the hotel adding a lot to the character of the interior. Even if you are not staying at the hotel it is worth stopping by for a drink and to look at the exhibition….ask for a card of the artist in case you want to order or commission your own work. Live Portrait drawn by Damyan at a Party in a Prague Hotel Villa Mansland

Hello World!

Here is a video clip of Damyan drawing a portrait of a young man at Easter at a private party in Villa Mansland Hotel Prague. The Portrait took 2 hours of work.
The Model - Jiri was very patient, and posed quite well. Even though the illumination was bad, the artist succeeded in capturing the face expression and the typology. It was the very first drawn portrait of him, so he liked it. The owner of the hotel bought the portrait at the auction. And now the work hangs on the wall in one of the hotel rooms.
Just like this Damyan can create a portrait of you.

AMY WINEHOUSE - A 5* Winner of the US Grammy Awards

Today is Amy Winehouse Day!
And I want to share my excitement and joy with all of you, my dear readers of this blog, and Amy's fans all over the world!!! She completely deserves these awards as her talent and her exotic beauty and style stands apart and inspires many people.

I can only imagine how far Amy's popularity will jump now even in the Cyber World - how many requests of Amy Winehouse Memorabilia, Amy Winehouse Music, Amy Winehouse Awards or maybe even Art will be made... I just want to say
Congratulations Amy [!], you've reached not only the Europe's hears but the Whole America's too!!!

And the music has NO BORDERS! the Art has NO BORDERS! Even though Amy didn't receive a damned USA VISA [I had a similar bitter experience too] - her music travells and brings a lot of pleasure to people and music fans all over the world!!! That's just great!!!!!

Amy swept the board last night at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. She picked up a stunning 5 awards in the six categories in which she was nominated. Excited Amy performed via a live satellite link form London [UK] putting on a show stopping rendition of "You Know I'm No Good" and "Rehab".
One of the awards was for the highly coveted ‘Record of the Year’ which Amy gratefully and graciously accepted to massive audience appreciation. Amy Winehouse took the following
awards :

1. RECORD OF THE YEAR*
2. BEST NEW ARTIST*
3. SONG OF THE YEAR*
4. POP VOCAL ALBUM*
5. FEMALE POP VOCAL PERFORMANCE*

Amy was one of the biggest winners of the night with no other artist taking home more awards than she did. Congratulations Amy Winehouse! You did it! many successes in the future!!!

I Iwant to share and show my work that I recently did, a Pseudo Mosaic Portrait of Amy Winehouse. Her music, her style, incredible voice and original appeal inspired me so much that I wanted to create a series of her portraits, but I will share today only with the FIRST one:

Also from before, as I am passioned of architecture and as I love the original style of Antonio Gaudi (25 June 185210 June 1926) - his GENIAL architecture and interior designn. Especially his mosic works left a deep trace in my imagination.

And the Byzantine Mosaic and its traditions taken from the Great Roman Empire Art are still a great source of inspiration for me as an artist. I am putting some good examples of Byzantine Portraits of Saints and Queens with Kings. So here I will show all the main stages of creating the portrait of Amy Winehouse, the Star of the Month!

Looking for an Affordable Unique Gift for all Ages and All Occasions?

Many people waste time, money and stress searching for the ideal gift for a loved one or close friend only to find that after all their efforts it is received politely with a feeling that they wish you had not bothered! Others make the mistake of thinking that they need to spend a small fortune to impress the recipient. Look how many gifts were sold on ebay after Xmas! Can you imagine how you would feel if you saw one of the gifts you gave a loved one sold on ebay?!

So read this and STOP making the same mistakes, change your mindset and not only save time and money but also ensure that the recipient of your gift will be happy to receive a unique, personal and lasting present. Think back and ask yourself what really touched you when you received a gift? Was it not often the unexpected gift or the one that showed a lot of thought went into it – the gift that was given with love.

Let me give you an example if I may. I organized and led tours all over the world for international students for many years. I knew as a guide that I would be lucky to get any tips or even presents at the end as schools and students were not expected to do that…….many colleagues working in the adult tours market made much more. I liked the fun and challenge of working with youngsters and the fact that each tour was different and it allowed me to see the world and learn a lot.

Sometimes I would be given a bottle of wine or chocolates or even a small tip by the school at the end but the gift I remember and treasure was from 2 teenage boys. I had taken them to an Italian café early in the morning to learn about the culture and coffee ritual in Italy as they were interested and espresso drinkers! On the last day they came knocking on my door with a tin of fresh coffee as a thanks to show their appreciation of how I shared my knowledge and spent time with them. It was from them and not a plan that came from the teachers and that meant a lot to me. It was not so mcu what I received but the fact it came from their heart with thanks and appreciation!

You may say to me how can I find that unique meaningful gift as maybe you have or know one of the following:
- a wealthy man who has it all
- a fussy wife who has special tastes
- a teenager who changes his wants list according to the latest fad and fashion
- a well known person or celebrity who you have no idea what to give that will be liked

NO MORE STRESS AND WORRY!
ART GIFTS ARE THE ANSWER…….
how about an amazing and beautiful portrait gift according to your specifications (or you can allow the artist to use his creativity and imagination as my portrait artist friend Damyan did when painting many celebrities!). When looking at this portrait artist’s site and seeing that he also does COMMISSIONS and how different and talented he is, I offered to write a page about UNIQUE GIFTS for his website as so many people do not think of ART when looking for unusual and lasting gifts that will mean something to the receiver! Of course the artist has to be talented and also offer something different with a wow factor or you risk the recipient disliking the end result.

Finally another example of an art gift that costs way under $100 is an architectural print on good quality paper of a famous building….like an artist’s or architect’s drawing. Frame it and you have a great looking gift. I bought the long copy of the CAMPANILE in Florence. Not only is it my favourite building but also the long narrow tower would fit perfectly on a small space between 2 doors in my flat! I got a thin black frame and it looks so classy and is a gift I would be happy to present to anyone. When I was in Paris I bought a copy of Pei’s drawing of the glass pyramid in black and white for a friend who likes that kind of decoration. It now sits above his fireplace in the main room! Put some thought into your gifts and personalize them and you will have a happy recipient and when you see their smile you will be joyful. GRAPHIC ART Inspirations for a Professional Skill Artist

Good evening my dear readers, friends!

Today i will reveal my graphic art inspirations and main Artists that I admire in graphic Art. As leonardo Da Vinci said "The Drawing is the Most Important Art and A BASIS for All fine Arts"
So here are some relevant examples of graphic art of Otto Wangner (Austria) and Gustave Klimt(Austria). Their detailed graphic works for decoration of publi buildings, private houses, concert halls, Railway Stations had a lot from the Secession Art deco style, using the principle of filling the particular spaces oif the composition with flowers, vegetal elements, golden and silver accents in expressive stuffed square .

insertments in CONTRAST with empty, simplified stripes and figures of architecture or people.

Gustav Klimt slightly begins to stylize the figures, decorates the Portraits, experiment with painting and sculputre.

This principle is often called "Full-Empty" which makes the Art Deco style stand apart from all the previous tendances in the Fine Arts. The Composition, The Decorative pannel or the portrait with Empty squeare spaces and small stuffed parts with deco elements make the composition fresh, and catches the eye on certain parts of the composition. Stylized deco Fonts rise the expression of Secession and confers the conposition an aspect of Applied Art Work.

Gustav Klimt's Graphic poster for the Secession Exhibition in Wien (Austria). the composition begins to be devided into parts of interest filled with details and empty spaces.

While Klimt - a rebel Artist - who wasn't recognized and was toughly criticised by the leading Professors and Artists did a more bi-dimensional interpretation of the real subjects like landscapes and Woman Figures. The period of Art Nouveau seemed to make the artists perceive the reality otherwise... the perspective was not so important any more. The academic detalisation and the Air perspective, shading and true live colours were not a priority any more.
OTTO WAGNER

The Art had allready new horizons and objectives. Art Deco was a hymn for symbols and shapes. The portraits became decorative and slowly evaluated into posters and stylized monumental figurines. very often these figures were simplified into squeare and narrow sculptures on the buildings, designing a new era and conception of Art.

A Very good example of Art deco style and expression of the mood of the time in graphic art are Otto Wagner's Graphic and Architectural projects.

"Vienna" graphic Work overview by Otto Wagner. Otto often used black ink and watercolour for his graphic works. Very detailed and serious realistic approach.

Damyan's graphic Work dedicated to Prague. "Prague The European City". I used the image of the GIRL (dreaming) from Klimt's painting, as Europa - the Goddess on the background of Europe in top, after that zooming into Czech State with famous panorama of Prague with bridges and ending with prague Map graphisme.

Damyan's Graphic Work "Prague - the HEART OF EUROPE - Mater Urbium" Black and White Ink technique on Tinted Grained Paper. Classic book Frame from the Middle Ages. Prague as a HEART on the fading Europe image which transforms into the sky clouds. Prague View with Saint Vitus Cathedral and PRAHA inscription in the bottom part inside the Frame. Work with Middle Ages inspiration.

ALFONSE MUCHA - and his great Talent and Influence on me as an Artist!

Good Evening dear readers of my blog!

It is really evening becouse the Blog layout design is based on a Black background...so everyday here is dark like in a theatre and the pictures with all my revelations about my art and my sources of inspiration are in CONTRAST! :) Like in a theatre.... A Baroque Contrastant, spectacular scene...... quite romantic isn't it? ;)

Today I will tell you about The FIRST Czech Artist (by all means) as William Hogarth as the Firts Painter in England - ALFONSE MUCHA.
Alphonse Mucha with his decorative posters has become a kind of trademark and synonym for the Art Nouveau movement. In the sixties his

poster reproductions had a revival and were popular again among the flower-power and hippie generation.

Alfons Maria Mucha was born in Ivancice, a small provincial town in the Czech Republic.
He started his artistic career as an autodidact.

Alfons Mucha had a vocational training in stage decorations in Vienna from 1879 to 1881. In the evening he attended a class in drawing. After a few occasional commissions for decorative paintings, he went to Munich in Southern
Bavaria. Here he studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts from 1885 to 1887.

After Munich, Mucha moved to the "mecca" of arts, Paris. Here he studied with different teachers. He lived in modest conditions and could survive with small commissions for book and newspaper illustrations. For a short period he shared a studio with Paul Gauguin.

Mucha
had developed his own personal style-
characterized by art nouveau elements, tender colors and byzantine decorative elements.

And all these elements were ranked around images of fairy like young women with long hair and
splendid, refined costumes. In the coming years, this type of female images should become his trademark. Mucha used lithography as the printing technique for his posters.

The posters are usually signed in the block. Some of his posters were produced as sets like The Four Seasons. Complete sets count among the most searched for of his works.

In 1890 the artist had his first one man show in Paris with 448 works on display. His art work was not confined to the printing media.
He designed tissues, stamps and even bank bills. In 1900 he received a commission by the Austrian
government to decorate the Austrian pavilion for the World Fair in Paris of 1900. He became also

active in designing jewelry.

In the first two decades of the XX-th century Mucha traveled frequently to the United States.

He took commissions in the US and taught art at art academies in New York and Chicago.

In 1939 the German Nazis occupied Czechoslovakia.

The popularity of the artist made him a number one target for the Gestapo, the Nazi secret police. He was arrested, interrogated and realeased. Shortly afterwards, Alphonse Maria Mucha died on July 14, 1939 in Prague.
The city of Prague has dedicated an Alphonse Mucha Museum to the artist.

The New Year 2008! Looking back to the Sources of Inspiration for the Damyan's Portraits!

Wellcome again Art Lovers to my Blog!
I am a young artist who has experimented with many styles, mediums and graphics in my art work. And in this post i'll be writing about my sources of inspiration for my Original graphic Art and the celebrity portraits and commissions. As without past and the roots and "fathers" and the background of an artist we cannot know and "feel" the artist's world.

My sources of inspiration:

All artists are influenced by their surroundings and in my case, since moving to Prague, I have been inspired by the architecture (specially Art Nouveau and Art Deco), the many bridges and narrow winding lanes giving a medieval atmosphere.

The Czech artist Alfons Mucha (Czech Republic) has many motifs and decorations that I use in my frames and graphic work to give a special finish to my portrait work. I think he was a GENIOUS, like Gustave Klimt (Austrian Secession) who was cultivating Decorative Taste and a New Style in Portraiture. This decorativity ind stylization I think today is looks very actual, and can be used in decorating interiors and designed in art deco BEAUTIFUL style; as decorative stylized portraits can be presented in huge formats and dimensions. This Post is dedicated to Gustave Klimt - One of the most important representatives of Art Nouveau Secession style in the History of Art.

Here are some examples of Gustave Klimt's Major Works that cultivated and influenced my tastes in art: Gustave Klimt's "Music I"

Gustave Klimt's "Hygiea" (first row on the right) The Serpent curves and Decoration, the golden flowers in the goddess' hair are fascinating.

A Very Colourful portrait with an abundance of decorative elements
and graphic figures on the background.

Gustave's Judith - The Brilliant Art Work which is called by many critics "One of the Most Sensual, Erotic and Beautiful Portraits of all times"

I have also produced some interesting graphic posters and collages using this beautiful city and its architecture as an inspiration, that you can see in my previous posts. There are elements of the medieval towers, bridges and also art deco and modernist buildings and decorations.

In the next post i will be speaking about Alfonse Mucha - a very famous representative of Art Nouveau in the Czech Republic - who's style and technique has Influenced and revolutionized my tastes and style. His paintings and Decorative pannels are spread in Galleries all over Europe, and the most beautiful ones but not all... are exposed in Prague Mucha's gallery, together with Salvador Dali's skethes and Prints in one building.
Thanks for your interest and good luck.

Celebrity Star Portraits Site! How it all began!

As I came first time to Prague in autumn of 2006, I was really inspired by it's architecture,

culture! it;s often called the Mother of Cities or the European Pearl... or even the Heart of Europe!

I wanted to express my deep feelings for this beautiful city... and as I am an artist, and designer of interiors, furniture and add-print polygraphic design. So I decded to draw some really delicate graphic works in 2 mediums : pencil of different softness and black ink.... Also I created 2 collages with paper cuts of prague... and dedicated them to Prague...

Prague Collage by night (Damyan) (it took 2 days 4-6 hours a day)

Prague Collage by Day (Damyan) (it took 2 days 4-6 hours a day)

Graphic Work With Charles Bridge With a Saint Silouete and Franz Kafka with Saint Weceslas on the Horse monument. (Damyan) (it took me 3 days - 4-6 hours a day)
